Hi There.
Maybe you found me via another site. Maybe you have a LiveJournal account but we're not mutually "friended". Maybe you don't have a LiveJournal account, but you like to check in on me from time to time.
You might be sitting there, going, "Wait, where did all the posts go?"...
I've recently shifted most of my entries to "Friends"-only and/or private. While some of these may well be shifted back to public view eventually, after I've started the long, slow process of sifting through, tagging, and possibly editing them, most of them will remain non-public.
If you'd like to be added BLAH BLAH BLAH.... Yes, we've all seen various permutations of this message. Instead, I'm going to give you the layman's down and dirty of it. So here's the skinny:
-Sometimes I add people who pique my interest in one form or another. There's no mutual-add popularity quota expected. If I add you that way, it's because you're posting something I enjoy, and I'm basically subscribing to you. If you want to subscribe back, great, if not, it's all good.
-Sometimes when people add me, I add them back, but not always. If you add me, and I actually know you outside of LJ, tell me. Believe it or not, it's not always obvious who someone is from their LJ, profile, pictures, and such when looking at it. If we've not interacted anywhere previous to the add, the first thing I tend to do is a quick perusal of a profile and recent LJ entries before adding. If nothing stands out there, then I may just leave it be without adding back.
-I hate most Memes. With a passion only rivaled by Chuck Berry's love of toilet cameras. If your LJ is all/mostly frequent Meme posting, or worse yet, you're one of those who posts them all/mostly without LJ cut, chances are I'm not going to add you. Or, if I do, I may not read you.
-Which brings us to the very direct fact that I don't don't read every post everyone on my f-list makes. I scan most of them at least, if I've not been out of town for a period of time or whatnot, but even then, things can be missed. More specifically, there are some people who I retain on my "Friends" list who I do not read, other than once in awhile when I specifically go to their journal. Reasons vary.
-Not everyone on my "Friends" list is a real life friend, and not all of my real life friends with LJs are on my "Friends" list. My friends are my friends, whether I read their LJ/Twitter/Facebook/MySkeez/etc. or not, and whether they read mine or not. Also, some of my real life friends are people who I know from online, that I've never met, but who I'd gladly sit down and spend time with if the opportunity arose and we were both in the same place.
-In the end... THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST. We're not in high school... well, most of us aren't, at least LOL...
All of that being said... Many of the public posts to come here soon will be cross-posts from my website blog. While I have a Dreamwidth account, I'm not sure where that will factor in yet, other than as perhaps another echo point and backup for here. For those not "friended" or who don't have an LJ account, I still tend to be fairly interactive comment replies where warranted, when I have time.
The Tip Jar:
See that shiny PayPal "Donate" button? That's the Tip Jar. Eventually it will be replaced with one that specifically says "Tip Jar". What's it for? Well, many of us creative types often find ourselves with irregular income. It can be feast, and it can be famine. Any monies donated to the Tip Jar specifically be prioritized to go toward things like rent, cell phone (which has saved my ass more times than I can count), food, medical expenses, things to facilitate income, and such. Read: Necessities. Honestly, I think any serious/professional creative, whether blogger, author, artist, or other individual who maintains a web presence, should have one of these.
Don't tip out of obligation. Tip because you want to. Here's my proposition: If you like something I post, whether in general, or in specific, and you want to throw a few bucks my direction, do so. Mind you, if you want to throw more, I'm certainly not going to argue... There is no set amount, just tip what your comfortable with. The Tip Jar monies will be put to good use, and may well be incentive for me to post things of greater substance. As one friend's Tip Jar cleverly puts it, "$ = Brainpower".
Important Note: While there is no minimum amount set with this, all PayPal transactions have a set 2.9%, +$0.30 fee that Paypal takes out of the transaction. So if you opt to donate, keep that in mind. If you're confused by that, here are a few examples, rounding up on the fee:
Tip: $10.00/Received: $9.41 ... Tip: $3/Received: $2.61 ... Tip: $1.00/Received: $0.67
Finally... Tipper identity and amount tipped will remain between myself and the tipper. Those that opt to tip may also receive priority for commission and gratis artwork, where applicable.
Sound fair? Cool. Moving on...
This will likely be updated with some degree of frequency, as needed. Feel free to come back and check it as often as you'd like.
